Trusting Good Ol’ Peeps

I wrote a story recently inspired by a picture I took while trying to capture some goofy pictures with my friend.

That day I was hungry, tired but happy.

Why?

Because she was walking with me.

I used to be that girl that thought she could do without a lot of people in her life. Always kept them at arm’s length. Knowing a lot about their lives, yet never letting anyone close enough to see the girl behind the wide smiles and brown eyes.

I remember vividly the day another of my friend took me to task because I was pushing her away. Come and see tears 😂 (BTW, friendship is messy).

Why is it so hard to trust?

Only God knows what each of us has gone through. Man is flawed and in relating with them, one is bound to get hurt and hurt others in the process.

Like a wounded lion, we retreat to lick our wounds and tell ourselves that we are better off alone. We tell ourselves this so much, so often that we soon begin to believe it.

Trust is never easy but it is worth it.

God created us to dwell in community.

He intentionally did not make any of us to be 100% so that we will never stop needing one another.

I am not writing this to tell you that the person you trust won’t hurt you or break your trust.

I am writing this to tell you to choose your battles—forgiving and choosing to love that person even still or staying alone and be miserable (yes, miserable, because when we push people away and we wallow in hurts, sorrows and bitterness, the only thing we become is miserable).

Count your cost and choose what kind of house you want to build and live in for the rest of your life.

People are flawed. But they are also beautiful and they bring this beauty into our lives.

Choose love, with all its droll and mucus.

Love makes us vulnerable, but vulnerability is strength. Not just that, it gives us the strength to go on. Love is the heart of life. It is the blood that causes it’s heart to thump.

Owe no man anything but to love one another — Romans 13:8a
