Holiday Traditions

After over six months of being away from home, I finally came home on the 23rd of December (and I will make a mad dash back to school immediately after new year).

When I got home, I got caught up in preparation for Christmas. Pretty much was the same. Yet there were little changes here and there.

Let’s start with the food.

Change of cook. Tweaking of recipes.

You get the idea.

As the years progressed, new came in to kiss the old. Slowly, gently melding till I couldn’t tell it apart from the old.

Change can be monumental.

I am the kind of girl that don’t take to change so well.

When I was in secondary school, I couldn’t even listen to new music. It was that bad.

Change can be terrifying.

My reason for not trying out new songs was: “what if I don’t like it.

Change is inevitable.

I avoided change as much as I could. And yet, it creeped up on me.

My sisters playing the new songs out loud.

Exams coming carrying me on a swell into new experiences.

People tiptoeing into my lives.

Leaves falling and new ones sprouting.

My mommy leaving the stove for my eldest sister to take over.

Change isn’t so terrible.

Like I had made it to be.

Sure, change brings both good and bad. But even in the bad, there’s a silver lining.

It is the 31st and the new year is few hours away.

New is here again.

As much as I am still ‘ol Chinaza, I am not quite the same. And as I progress into the new year, so many things will fall off. A lot will have to give. New will come in, settling on my shoulders till it becomes a comfy sweater.

Change is exciting.
