I had attended JAM Summit when I was in secondary school. Half of the teachings, I didn’t understand. I enjoyed the vibes and dance. But most of the time I was clueless.
But this time…
Somewhere at the back of my mind, I thought “this people rhema no go hot reach the one wey I dey used to.” But as we progressed, my friend kept asking me “where did we get the idea that CFI people are not sound?” Honestly, I had no idea.
Then there were the dance ministrations. My God! The fact that a group of persons could capture the gospel through dance. It gives me hope — that indeed we can take over all the sectors of this world for Jesus.
Have you ever seen a person give a sermon — as in, open your bible to and the whole shebang — using rap? I did. His name is Hybrido. I remember when I saw him walk up the stage, wearing a simple shirt and jeans and looking so ordinary, I thought “this guy can’t be good. Probably an upcoming artist.” One minute in and I was already on my feet screaming my voice out.
Spoken words, drama presentations…they were plenty. But not as plenty as those who sang, and their voices! Gosh! (not all sha😂😂)
JAM Summit was an explosion of talents. All for Jesus.
My roommate always hammer a word: “exposure.” You would think that your world is all there is to be, until you are exposed!
Gosh! My mind shattered.
I began to see that nah, I didn’t know everything.
And do you know what this does? It makes you better in whatever you are doing. It pushes you to see that there is more, so much so that you can reach for that more.
Your space, your experience, your school are just little pockets…not the whole picture.
Reach for exposure.
Consume books. Travel. Go for programs. Volunteer. Listen a lot. There is so much in this world for you to unravel. Don’t be content with what you know. Divorce complacency. Reach for more. I mean, look at the God you serve. Don’t settle for less, love.
You are made for so much more. So reach for so much more than you have. Pursue knowledge. Pursue experiences. Pursue exposure.
