These recent days, I have faced quite a number of disappointments. I mentioned it in the previous post. Through it all, one thought kept running through my mind — I miss my Mommy.
Never had I felt the distance between us as much as I did in those trying days. I wanted to bury my face in her chest, cry and let her just hug me. I knew that she might not be able to solve all my problems, but I was sure that once she wrapped her arms around me, somehow all would be right with my world mentally. I knew that with just one touch of her loving hands, the weight that have pulling my shoulders down will no longer be mine to bear alone.
From there, it started occuring to me how wonderful motherhood is.
You see, no matter how old you get, you’ll never stop needing your mommy.
I have come to realize that motherhood represents something beautiful in God and that is security and acceptance — you will agree with me that everything God created is an expression of him.
Let’s look at the places God likened himself to a mother in the bible.
The popular one is Isaiah 49:15 (NKJV): “Can a woman forget her nursing child, And not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget, Yet I will not forget you.”
They say there is a profound connection between a mother and her child, such that when something bad happens to the child, the mother immediately sense it.
If there can be that profound of a connection with our earthly mother, how much more with God?
David puts it like this in Psalms: “you know how troubled I am; you have kept track of all my sorrows, my wanderings and my weepings, every toss and turn through the sleepless night. You have collected my tears in your bottle — none will be lost. Aren’t they listed in your books? Each tear entered into your ledger, each ache written in your book.”
I believe strongly that God created motherhood to express his compassionate nature. So that we can learn, through the preview of motherhood, how unrelenting his love can be, how undivided his connection to his own is, how strongly his heart beats for us, how fiercely he will move heaven and earth to find us settled and well, how strong he will be for us when we can’t find it in ourselves to be strong.
Psalms 91:4 (NKJV):
He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.
He is the El Shaddai — the multi breasted one; the one in whose bossom you can find security and provision and rest.
There is something unique about a mother’s love. As we experience, let us recognise that it is a pointer to the one who loves us to that same frightening degree and more. Let it lead us to pursue a deeper intimacy with God. Let it teach us to never grow up that we will stop relying on his strength. Let it cause our fears to cease as we remind ourselves of this security we have in him.
We are never alone, amigo.
God is with you like a bear with her cubs; he is fierce over you like a lioness, and he is steadfast over you like your Mom.
